Layer Cake Mountain district is one of two districts in Kelowna. Layer Cake Mountain consists of the east side of Kelowna and Lake Country, including the following neighbourhoods:
- Rutland
- Ellison
- Black Mountain
- Joe Riche
- UBC Okanagan
- Winfield/Lake Country
Layer Cake Mountain is a unique geographical feature, believed to possibly be the only one of its kind in the world. As volcanic activity ebbed, crystalline veins of material cooled and contracted, fractured, and then were covered by further layers of volcanic flow which then went through the cooling process and created further fracturing.
This unique land form is found in the Mission Creek Canyon and is part of phase 2 of the Mission Greenway. When creating our new district name, we chose a feature of our area that was one of a kind — a fitting symbol of our great District.
